Is cold email to businesses legal in the UK?

In the UK, you may email people at limited companies and LLPs about relevant products without prior consent, under PECR, if you say who you are, give a simple way to opt out and honour it. UK GDPR still applies: you need a legitimate interest and must be transparent. Sole traders and some partnerships count as individuals and need consent.

What you must do

  • Identify yourself and your company, with a valid address to reply to.
  • Offer an easy unsubscribe in every email, and stop at once when asked.
  • Write only about something relevant to the person's role.
  • Keep a record of why you believed the contact was appropriate.

What to avoid

  • Personal email addresses, and contacts at sole traders without consent.
  • Data scraped against a site's terms.
  • Hiding who you are or why you wrote.

How Striker does it

Striker uses work addresses only, checks each one before sending, adds an unsubscribe to every email, suppresses anyone who opts out across your whole account, and never scrapes LinkedIn. This page is general information, not legal advice.
